I love blasting heavy music during workouts, it gets me motivated!
While listening and doing Chest Press, a song came by which I hadn’t heard before: Nosferatu – The Only Life I’ll Ever Know.
This is a truly great song with some catchy and powerful quotes:
Take ownership, take extreme ownership.
Take ownership of everything in your world, your good and your bad.
Take ownership of your life and lead, lead yourself and the people in your life.
Lead them on to victory!
Truth to be told, this hit me differently. During the entire workout I was constantly thinking about those words and I have to say: This is very much true! Everything in our life needs ownership and it’s yours to tackle! For me, this meant:
- No excuses: take responsibility for your actions and don’t blame anyone else. You have the power to change your life. You are in control!
- Leadership starts with yourself: taking responsibility for your own actions, changing your path, patterns or behavior shows leadership. You are the leader in your own life. If you’re a parent, then this automatically means that you need to guide your kids, teaching and showing them how things can be done.
- Learn: put your ego aside. Learn from all aspects of your life, the good and especially the bad. All of those things have a deeper meaning and lessons to be learned.
- Be proactive, not reactive: take action now rather than waiting. There is no better time than now! Stop wasting your time.
When I got home, totally exhausted, I was still thinking about the song. I wondered where this quote came from, and with the help of ChatGPT, I found out that this quote comes from a book: Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win written by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.
This is not a typical book that I would be interested in reading, but since the quote got me thinking so much, I might just do that. Perhaps I can still learn a thing or two!
This song reminded me that growth starts with taking ownership. Maybe this book is my next step—what will be yours?
