It’s been some time since my last post, and I wanted to share an update on the health challanges that began back in October 2022. In March, I wrote about suffering from viral meningitis and my experiences on the long recovery road and what I learned.
Fast forward to today, and I find myself back with yet another health challenge where, once again, I was hospitalized. After a series of tests and consultations, the doctors have identified the underlying cause of my health struggles: Vasculitis.
Understanding Vasculitis
Before the doctors mentioned this, I’d never heard of this disease before. Vasculitis is inflammation of the blood vessels. Basically, the body’s immune system perceives blood vessels as a threat. The inflammation can cause the walls of the blood vessels to thicken, reducing the width of the passageway through the vessel. If blood flow is restricted, it can result in organ and tissue damage. The cause of this can be some very serious autoimmune system diseases, but in my case, Vasculitis has been traced back to an infection within my body.
The Path Forward
Even after all the tests, it’s stil uncertain which kind of infection and where the infection is at. There are still numerous appointments, tests and consultation to come as the medical teams in the hospital are trying to find the best course of action. This led me to have some serious issues with my body since I wasn’t even able to walk or use my hands.
In the meantime, I’m on a course of Prednisone, a medication that helps manage inflammation and makes sure that I can do the simple things in life such as walking on my own again, It is proven that this will help Vasculitis but the underlying infection might cause it back. But for now, I’m happy to get my life back despite the side effects of Prednisone.
Dancing with the unknown….
So there I was, recovering from the low energy level and from the viral meningitis, and then a new dancing partner arrived – uncertainty. With this new, unwanted partner, balancing my personal and work life has become a somehow delicate dance. While I was already doing my upmost to have a better focus on my health, this new experience shows once again the importance of prioritizing our health and well-being. It’s a journey of ups and downs, progress and setbacks. Even though I have lost the confidence in my body at this moment, I’m sure that this will get better in time. The sooner the better off course….
