My name is Behrad and I’m 41 years old, divorced, father of 2 daughters in the age of 12 and 8 with whom I spend a lot of time. I’m currently working as Sr. System Engineer in a very well known international company.
So I initially completed my studies in System Administration at school, but I wasn’t really into IT at that time. It felt a bit too “nerdy” at that time and I saw myself doing a commercially-oriented job. So I decided to go for Media Management.
After finishing my Media Management study I started my career as a Marketing Assistant, before transitioning to the role of Operations Assistant at the same company. Since the company was growing and expanding, there was a need for a new position as Purchasing Representative. Perhaps this was the “commercial” job I was waiting for and it felt good to negotiate over prices, terms & procure promotional materials and professional accessories for the salon-exclusive hair care brands owned by the company.
You might think that I was forgotten all about IT, but the funny thing is that IT was committed to be a part of my journey at every step, almost like a persistent friend. Eventually, I was co-responsible for managing our office IT infrastructure, procuring hardware/software, offering initial support, and facilitating communication between IT, Operations, and the business next to my purchasing activities. One of my key focus area was on optimizing our B2B webshop and loyalty program for an excellent user experience. Balancing roles in IT felt like playing dress-up—I’d switch from my ‘Purchasing’ hat to my ‘IT Rep’ hat, and occasionally, my ‘debugging code’ hat! It was at this point that I realized that IT wasn’t just for the “nerds” and that maybe, I really enjoyed it A LOT!
After 10 years of working at the same company, where I could feel and do a lot of different roles, the company got acquired by a large international corporation. Suddenly, the days of switching and wearing different hats and roles were over. At first I was within the integration team and things started to change. Right in the middle of all that change, a new opportunity knocked on my door; a chance to dive headfirst into IT, every single day as System Engineer.
So for the past couple of years, I’ve been knee-deep in networking, configuring Cisco & Aruba switches, “messing around” with On-Prem and cloud server setups! Funny to see how life circles back around, isn’t it? After all of those different roles, I somehow landed exactly where I initially started with: IT! It keeps me wondering; was this entire journey meant to bring me right here, right now? I don’t know but for sure I can tell you that it feels like it’s meant to be!
The Roots of ITB4X.com: From Portfolio to Blog!
This website is a successor of my portfolio which could be found on BioTecK.net. BioTecK.net started as a project for school during Media Management, where the assignment was to showcase your portfolio; Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign skills. Yep, next to my Marketing, Operation, Purchasing and IT hat, I can also put a designer hat as well, haha! Yeah, as a matter of fact, I’ve designed several flyers, posters and websites for different companies and/or organizations.
While many were sticking to traditional offline portfolios, I choose to do things differently and wanted to showcase mine online. After spending some time thinking about the proper name, we came with BioTeck. A fusion of “Behrad” for the “B”, “Bio” for Biography and “TecK” as a funny and creative twist of Tech. The .net domain was chosen carefully to represent the NET. A perfect blend of the things which was needed to complete my study!
Around that time, blogging was catching fire and I also burned my fingers on it and with the very first release of WordPress, the website got an official blog section part as well. I kept blogging from 2003 till late 2011 about my personal adventures, IT, tech and design topics, but then I took a decade-long break from writing and blogging.
Fast forward to 2021, I decided to get back on writing again, while BioTecK.net was still registered, I registered EyeTeeBee.com (to be read as IT B) and wrote my first post on 16th of October 2021 until November 2023.
In November I decided that EyeTeeBee.com wasn’t cutting it, so I came up with another domain name called ITB4X.com. Just like my other domains, there is a catch with this domain as well:
- IT: stands for Information Technology (representing my true identity, haha)
- B: Behrad
- 4: denotes for
- X: Represents Exchange
So ITB4X.com is the place where I share everything from IT-related topics like cool Dockers, nice software which I found handy, network infrastructure topics, smart home technology to personal topics close to my heart or basically anything else that I feel is worth sharing.
While the actual move from EyeTeeBee.com to ITB4X.com was rather easy, with this change, the upcoming challenge lies in creating a new logo and implementing further updates on the website. Maybe I should’ve started with the logo; draw the rest around it? Hmmmm…Oh well, guess we’ll figure it out as we go!
